Ram-Leela aka Goliyon Ki Raasleela Ram-Leela movie review

RamLeela (aka Goliyon Ki Raasleela Ram-Leela) is opulent and mounted on a grand large canvas. The movie is a riot of colors, emotions and erotica. Ram-Leela is perhaps Bhansali’s most sensual movie till date.

In fact some of the dialogues are openly very raunchy; not an ideal family watch movie for sure!

The chemistry between the lead actors Deepika Padukone and Ranveer Singh is sizzling; HOT! The movie absolutely belongs to Deepika Padukone; she looks superb and acts her part! Supriya Pathak was mean and perfect; a pleasure to see her back on the screen in a different avatar. Ranveer Singh looks a tad beefed up, but hey..his role is of a romeo high on testosterone, and well he plays that role to perfection, with raunchy dialogues et all. Support cast actors including Barkha Bisht Sengupta and Richa Chadda ( as DIL’s of the respective households) were great too!

Music? It’s awesome! Beautifully choreographed. Some numbers are already top of the charts; ‘Lal Ishq’ sung by Arijit Singh is a favorite. I found Lal Ishq the most poetic number of all.

Watch it only if you like lots of music, grandiose presentation and yes are a hopeless romantic ( not in the usual poetic sense here, but!). This is an out and out Sanjay Leela Bhansali film; a very sensory and exotic interpretation of Shakespeare’s Romeo Juliet.

A big screen watch for sure, because the exotic frames look great on the big screen.

Caveat: It is a bold movie; so well…..oh and has quite a bit of explosive violence.. DON’T watch if on-screen sensuality and double-meaning erotic language put you off. This is a Leela Bhansali movie, don’t go looking for Shakespeare here!

What I liked: The colorful frames, some of the songs ( Lal ishq, lahu muh lag gaya, Nagada sang dhol), Deepika Padukone and her exotic earrings (I WANT!), the searing chemistry between the lead pair and last but not least, Supriya Pathak.

Some have HATED the movie, some have LOVED  Ram-Leela. Watch it and decide!

One of my favorite songs..

  1. Of course, 2nd half was a bit boring (and stupid), it made for a decent watch. There is a mark of SLB everywhere, yet the movie was so unlike SLB. 🙂

Now that’s what I’d call a great review.
