Love-lock Bridge Salzburg Austria

You can imagine my delight in seeing the love-lock bridge at Salzburg for the first time; the incurable romantic that I am. An ordinary bridge, like any other in the world, but the presence of the love-locks ( locks with the names of lovers/partners), is what makes this Makartsteg pedestrian bridge over the Salzach River different and magical from any other in the city of Salzburg.

Most of the locks have names of the lovers written on it, with words like ‘love forever’ etc. So many different kinds of locks; there were heart-shaped, fish-shaped and one even like the Indian deity Ganesha!

I guess it was the thought and all the wonderful energies of the lovers who had left a lock on the bridge, which made one feel so happy, while walking past and reading the sweet notes of endearment inscribed on the locks. While reading and looking at the locks, I overheard some one say disdainfully, “Such romantic-fools, exist in the world”. I laughed to myself when I overheard the cynical comment; poor is the soul, which has not been touched by love.

As you will notice in the picture, most locks were red in color; they are available as love-locks at the nearby market-plaza for 12 Euros! Now, that was a little steep don’t you think for a small lock? So if you happen to be in Salzburg, look out for the Makartsteg pedestrian bridge, read the love-notes and look at the old city of Salzburg standing majestically at a distance…it’s a wonderful feeling, I tell you!

Lock up all your love, and go and throw away the key!
